In the world of marketers, there’s no such thing as a true vocal minority. Why? Because everyone is vocal, we have to be, that’s our job. However, we do have a certain breed of marketer who often mistakes volume for excitement and shock for charm. The result is these self proclaimed marketing gurus who’ve managed to make a few bucks by separating fools from their money.

Maybe you’ve heard of the types. They have all the sleaze of a snake oil salesman (often complete with tooth pick), all the volume of Billy Mays, the energy of a Jack Russel terrier, and the personality of a washing machine full of old boots. These are the guys who preach with religious fervor about the this marketing plan, or that product scheme, and keep a constant eye on ever wallet in the room.

Is my distaste showing? It should be, that’s what motivated me to start this blog in the first place. I’m not here to tell you how to get rich. I’m not even here to promise you results. I’m just here to take separate the good, sound marketing techniques from the kind that make people want to punch you in the face at a cocktail party.

The self-proclaimed experts have dragged the marketing title through the mud long enough, it’s time to take it back.
