You’re not The First…Used Car Advertisements

This used car ad was recently ran in the London Free Press a newspaper in London, Ontario. The advertisement has a very controversial slant as it compares used cars with non-virgins (or sexually experienced women). The copy reads, “You know you’re not the first. But do you really care?” Well, used car owners may not care about buying a used car but I’m sure many women will care that they are once again being objectified in order to sell used cars. Even worse they are your past sexual exploits are the same as depreciation. Maybe the worst of this is the implication that non-virgins are “used”.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time this has been done. Early this year an Greece BMW dealership ran an advertisement with a younger, blonder model promoting the same idea.

How does this type of advertising make you feel? Outraged? Impressed? Meh? Let us know what you think.

Is the writer actually serious? The typical girl aspires to be as desired as a BMW. Further, most men do think a female’s prior sexual experiences are akin to depreciation. The primary reason men will overlook the “used” status of some females is directly related to how physically desirable she is — sadly, most woman are delusionally inclined to believe they are one of the desirables for whom their past sexual experiences are overlooked (at least for a fling). Grow up. The ad is effective.
